MOSCOW, RUSSIA / RankWire.AI / – Russia expects its 2026 grain harvest to total about 140 million tonnes as farmers complete the season. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said farmers had gathered more than 126 million tonnes by October 2. They had threshed roughly 90% of the planted grain area by that point. The government also expects oilseed production to reach around 35 million tonnes this year. The latest figures place the harvest close to the official full-year projection.

The national grain total has risen steadily during the autumn harvest period. Russia had collected 113.5 million tonnes by early September and 120 million tonnes by September 18. The later figure included more than 90 million tonnes of wheat. Oilseed output has now reached about 15 million tonnes. Farmers in the organized sector have also collected nearly 4.5 million tonnes of potatoes and a similar volume of vegetables. Officials said yields for most crop categories remain above their 2025 levels.
Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development has projected a slightly higher 2026 grain crop of about 141.8 million tonnes. Rosstat recorded a 2025 harvest of 141.2 million tonnes under its stated territorial coverage. Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut separately cited a 2025 total of 144.6 million tonnes at an April government meeting. She said that made it the country’s third-largest grain harvest. Russia produced almost 130 million tonnes of grain in 2024, providing another recent comparison for the current season.
Harvest work moves toward completion
Patrushev said the pace of harvesting supports the government’s current crop expectations. The Russian government has kept several support measures in place during the autumn field season. Authorities allocated about 10 billion rubles to subsidize grain transportation from major producing regions. The government also suspended grain export duty payments through the end of 2026. It capped export duties on vegetable oil and meal at August levels. Those measures remain part of the policy framework covering the final stages of the 2026 campaign.
Winter sowing has already passed half of the planned area for the next agricultural cycle. Officials have asked regional authorities to monitor planting closely, especially for winter grains. The Agriculture Ministry earlier said farmers planned to sow more than 19 million hectares with winter crops. Officials also highlighted the need for machinery, seed, fertilizer and other supplies during seasonal work. Farmers continue those preparations while completing the remaining 2026 harvest across grain, oilseed, vegetable and potato producing areas.
Output remains high by recent standards
Russia’s grain production has stayed near historically high levels in recent years. The country harvested about 143 million tonnes in 2023. Production reached a record 157.676 million tonnes in 2022. The current forecast of about 140 million tonnes sits below both totals. It remains above the nearly 130 million tonnes gathered in 2024. Officials have not issued a final 2026 figure because harvesting is still underway in some regions. The final national total will depend on completed reporting from the remaining harvest areas.
The broader 2026 crop campaign also includes oilseeds, vegetables and potatoes. Officials expect oilseed production to reach about 35 million tonnes for the full year. Vegetable and potato harvesting continues as regions finish seasonal field operations. At the same time, farmers are expanding winter planting for the next cycle. The Russian government has not yet published a final grain total. Its current national projection remains about 140 million tonnes for 2026, while the latest reported harvest has already exceeded 126 million tonnes.
